Off to Tennessee...

I've been runnin' at a flat lope here the last few weeks.... so much shit to do and not enough time to do it.

Well, I let my lady have a few of my vacation days, so she decided that we need to go check out the hills of Tennessee (and a BBQ joint in Knoxville). We'll prolly camp somewhere in lieu of a hotel to save some coin, and we'll certainly be hittin' up Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's a few other places we wanna check out, but I'm lettin' most of the plannin' up to her.

It's only for a coupla days, but all I gotta do is operate the bike and not get us killed. It'll be nice to get away and not have to be responsible for anyone else's shit for once. I'm just lookin' forward to gittin' outta Pennsyltucky, spendin' some quality time with my girl and seein' some great sights.

The last time I was in the great state of Tennessee, it was pretty tough to come home. I love it down there, and I can't wait to see it on the bike. Been waitin' many a year to do that.

PA Rifle Season: The Real Story

I haven't had anyone come through with airhorns recently...

This is why I prefer to hunt with the ol' stick 'n string. A lot less traffic and a lot less assholes.

As Mojo says...

"Hotter'n two foxes fuckin' in a forest fire!"

It's a warm one. I'm the lucky bastard, as almost all of my buddies are stuck outside for their jobs. It's so damn hot that some of their bosses have been sendin' 'em home early. I always think about scrappin' my desk job for some good ol' manual labor, since they all make a lot more coin than I do, but then days like this come along and remind me that sometimes, bein' poor ain't that bad.

The weekend ain't gonna be much better. Got an outdoor reunion on Saturday and a picnic on Sunday, all crammed between two shifts at the bar... looks like I'm gonna spend my weekend sweatin' my nuts off.

Some random notes:

Check this out for some free Hagg.

41 days until the dove and goose opener here in PA.

Holy hell, I can't wait...

Wanna hear some fucked-up music?

Go here for some free downloads of Hank III's new stuff, due to come out in September.

Love it or hate it, it's nice to see that Curb doesn't have their fat, grubby fingers in III's creative juices anymore.

At long last...

Only took two months, but I finally got my fingers on Matt's camera long enough to get the footage from Wade's spring gobbler...

Boom, indeed.

Enjoy, y'all!

MoHawk

Another fine pic of the 'hawk. I do enjoy havin' a mohawk around, if for no other reason than between the hair and my boots, my total height is close to 6'9". Reckon I'll keep it around for a few more days before I chop it off... got a little sun this weekend and have some fucked up tan lines to go with it. Don't want to chop it off and have a white stripe down the middle of my head.

Ran into Pappy again yesterday at the campground. Was good to see him and hear about his week. Sounds like he had a good time, although apparently "this gawddamned place turns into a fuckin' old folks home after 11!" Reckon he's used to the bigger, rowdier bike shows where the party doesn't stop after the band leaves.

Aside from the lack of sleep, the whole week went pretty smooth.... only had to break up one minor skirmish between some younger punk bikers but that was it. Other than that, spent most of the time jawin' with guys about bikes and enjoyin' the sexy biker chicks. It's a long day in the heat and ya gotta be very aware of your surroundings, but otherwise it's a pretty good gig.

Oh well... another one in the books. Time to recover, then start lookin' forward to next year.

I love my Limey

Oh, that Limey of mine. Finally got 'er back from gittin' the clutch done a few weeks ago, only to find the fork seals had taken a shit while she'd been sittin' all those months. Dropped the forks out and took 'em to the shop to have them do it. I'm cheap, but I ain't playin' chicken with the front end. I'll let the pros handle it.

So there my baby sat with no front end for a week while I waited to git the forks back. It's the middle of July and in the middle of Gettysburg Bike Week, so they're kinda busy.

Well, picked 'em up on the way into town yesterday, then wound up gittin' off my shift early. It's never a bad thing when I find myself with extra time. Bed? Who needs sleep when the love of my life needs put back together?

Well, I got 'er done without too much trouble. Everything went back together purty easily, although I think my brake and clutch lines took in some air while they were hangin' upside-down for a week. They're purty squishy, but I'll wait and git help on that. It'll do as is for now.

While I had 'er in pieces, I decided to antique 'er up a bit. I had already picked up a set of fork gaiters when I bought the seals, so I threw them on. Took off the sissy bar, put on the flat seat and lowered the handlebars a bit. I must say, the ol' bitch looks purty good. Low, mean and classic.... gotta love it.

Oh, and I just had to post this one up too.... got my annual Bike Week 'hawk spiked up and ready to go. Had to forego it last year due to a hitchin' I was in, so it's good to have it back. I pity da foo!

Pappy

One of the perks of workin' security for Gettysburg Bike Week is that I always meet interestin' folks.

Met me a grizzled, old bastard last night while doin' overnight watch at the campground. Introduced himself as Pappy.

Well, as most of ya know, anyone with the name Pappy usually has some pretty friggin' awesome stories. I told him as much, and he fired right back, "Well, I sure as hell earned it!"

Well, we sat around the campfire, shootin' the shit for a half-hour or so. Pappy is from New York, "about an hour north of the big hole in the ground." He's a former prison guard who somehow got tied up in (and hurt durin') the Twin Tower attacks.

As expected, he was full of infinite wisdom and plenty of tall tales. I had a few tidbits to throw in as well. For instance, after a discussion about big fake tits and what he referred to as "flappin' earmuffs", I was able to inform him (to his delight I might add) that it's commonly referred to as "motorboating" these days. I always like to try to keep the older generation up to date on our modern slang:)

My next two passes through his area, I'd stop and jaw with him for a few minutes more. Finally, around six-ish on my last pass around, he had retired to his camper.

I never get sick of jawin' with them old bastards. I think deep down inside, all of us want to be a Pappy someday. I know I do.

Wednesday Grind

From 2009's Endgame. Mustaine is a fuckin' genius. These pissin' matches between Metallica fans and Megadeath fans are just that... pissin' matches. They're both fuckin' awsome.

Happy Birthday, America

In honor of the dreams of our founding fathers...

Have a good day. I'm off to drink beer and play with fireworks.
