A Royal Pain in the Ass

It would appear that 235 years later, there are many Americans still under England's rule.

Anybody else got the shits of this "royal wedding" yet?

My buddy The Southpaw weighs in....

I'm awful fond of my woman, but she watches the Access Hollywood bullshit and she was sucked in by the whole hitchin'. It just amazes me how many people are creamin' their jeans over this shit.

• • •

The PA Spring Gobbler opener is tomorrow, and none too soon. Some of my buddies are already headed to camp... all my shit's packed, and as soon as I get home from work I'm pickin' up my buddy County Bitch and we'll be in the wind.

I have a game plan, but nine times outta 10 that winds up getting changed after the scouts get back Friday afternoon. Either way, we'll be set up as best we can to get some birds.

Hopefully we'll have some pictures and maybe some video on Monday for ya!

Sweet Jesus... I've been waitin' for this since the last day of deer season back in January!

Youth Hunt Pictures

Pretty sure Justin's takin' a nap, although he won't admit it.
Daxton, contemplating life, acorn whistling and pursuit of turkeys.
It was so foggy, we could barely see the decoy.

Youth Hunt Washout

So any day huntin' with kids is never a bust, but we sure as hell coulda done with some better weather.

It was overcast and mistin' when we parked, so we went ahead and hauled our ashes the whole way up the side of the mountain. Two minutes after we sat down, the heavens opened up and we all got sufficiently drenched. T'was a duckfest.

We saw a group of jakes on the way out, so we tried to set up on 'em. Unfortunately, they beat us to the field edge and we bumped 'em as we were gettin' into position.

By that time, the rain subsided and the encounter with the jakes had renewed the boys' enthusiasm, so we went up another hill and set up in a known feeding area and strut zone for a bit. Saw six deer which was very cool, but no turkeys. After a while, the one boy started shiverin' and the breeze picked up, so we called it a day and headed to the woodstove and breakfast.

I'll have a few pictures, hopefully tomorrow,  but I'm lettin' my cameras get good and dry before I even think about powerin' them on.

Tomorrow's the day...

After months of waitin', it's finally time to chase after some gobblers!

I picked up another youth to take tomorrow, so I'll have two antsy boys ready to slay a big ol' longbeard. After scoutin' yesterday and lookin' over some maps, I'm purty sure I have a decent game plan in place. Hopefully those insolent bastards will cooperate and the boys can have a great time.

Pics and maybe video will follow, harvest or not.

I'm not one for doin' recreation drugs.... I'll stick with women and booze for my vices. Trust me, I'm a fat bastard already. The last thing I need is the munchies. But I do think they need to legalize and regulate weed, for way more reasons than I'm gonna take the time to type.

Congressional Reform

Stolen from the GOC. One of his readers sent him this e-mail and requested that it be forwarded to 20 people.....

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

 1. Term Limits.
12 years only, one of the possible options below.
A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system,  and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.  Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!! If you agree with the above, pass it on.  If not, just delete. You are one of my 20+. Please keep it going...

Makes a whole lotta sense, huh?

Congrats J-Ro!

The subject matter sucks, but my good buddy James made the front page of the New York Times this morning.

Always awesome to see my friends doing well!

Youth Spring Gobbler Hunt

At long last, the time is just about upon us.

This Saturday mornin', my new buddy Daxton, his Pap and I are headin' up to Orrtanna to chase after that gaudy gobblin' bastard that I heard up there a few weekends ago. This'll only be my second 5A turkey hunt, so we'll all be learnin' on this one.

I plan to go up to scout either Thursday or Friday mornin' before work so I can get a better line on where we need to set up. As long as we hear birds and have some action, that's all I'm worried about 'cuz that's what it's all about. I just want Dax and his Pap to have a good time, and if we play our cards right we might get a big ol' strutter in our lap.

This'll also be my first Youth Hunt that Joe and I didn't go out, since he's too old now. Although we had a good run... in our four youth hunts together we were successful for two of 'em.

Gonna be a long week waitin' for this one!

Alabama Redneck

A redneck was stopped by a game warden in Alabama recently with two ice chests full of fish. He was leaving a cove off the Alabama River well-known for its fishing.

The game warden asked the man, 'Do you have a license to catch those fish?'

'Naw, sir' , replied the redneck. 'I ain't got none of them there licenses. You must understand, these here are my pet fish.'

'Pet fish?'

'Yeah. Every night, I take these here fish down to the lake and let 'em swim 'round for awhile. Then, when I whistle, they jump right back into these here ice chests and I take 'em home.'

'That's a bunch of hooey! Fish can't do that.'

The redneck looked at the game warden for a moment and then said, 'It's the truth Mr. Government Man. I'll show ya. It really works.'

'O. K..' , said the warden. 'I've got to see this!'

The redneck poured the fish into the river and stood and waited.

After several minutes, the game warden says, 'Well?'

'Well, what?', says the redneck.

The game warden says, 'When are you going to call them back?'

'Call who back?'

'The FISH', replied the warden!

'What fish?', replied the redneck.

Harley Fucks

Yannow what pisses me off? When these rich pretentious Harley-ridin' fucks with their chromed-out bikes that get 18 miles a year (usually to a local "rally") sit stopped at an intersection and continuously pop their throttles. Or the ones that have their speakers blarin' Montrose's Bad Motor Scooter loud enough to kill a small mammal.

Yeah, because that's just what everyone wants to hear.... you sittin' there jackin' your throttle like it's your dick just to hear yourself make noise.

Don't git me wrong. I ride over 10,000 miles a year and love some good rock 'n roll. But these fucktards that throw on leather for three days a year and think they're tough shit just drive me insane. Learn to ride and getta life. Goddamned weekend warriors.

No Casino Gettysburg

There won't be a casino in my backyard anytime soon.

After a vote this morning, the seven-member Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will not be awarding a license to the Mason-Dixon Resort & Casino.

Instead, the board voted 6-1 to grant the last available license to the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, in Wharton Township, Fayette County.

Gettysburg businessman David LeVan and former state legislator Joseph Lashinger Jr. sought the license to convert the Eisenhower Inn & Conference Center on Emmitsburg Road to a gaming resort with 600 slot machines and 50 table games.

Many Adams County residents supported their project because of the potential economic benefits. But preservationists and historians have condemned the plan because it would be about 0.8 miles from the southern border of Gettysburg National Military Park.

I personally was in favor of the casino, from the standpoint of more jobs and a little tax relief. I'm not strugglin' yet, but a lotta my family and buddies are havin' a tough go as of late. A casino mighta helped things out.

Alas, the bleedin' heart wombats, who seem to be against anything that brings money into our local economy, won this little battle. Hell, no, we can't have gambling here. It will ruin the reputation of our quaint little town! Gambling is eeeeeeeevil!

Good logic. I bet none of those good men that fought and died in my backyard had playin' cards or dice in their rucksacks or anything like that. Nope, no gamblin' here.

Oh well. Someone else's local economy got a boost, and I'm happy for them.

War Between The States

150 years ago today, Southern Confederate forces fired on Fort Sumpter, ingnitin' a five year shitstorm.

There was a lot of ugly about it. Truth be told, were I there in those days, I haven't to foggiest idea who I'd take up arms for. A lot of good and bad on both sides, and a very unclear picture of what was bein' fought over.

But it's no use startin' a big debate. None of us were around for it, so it's kinda a moot point.

Instead, I wanted to share this excellent link from J-Ro concerning what the Great War has left our current society with. Take a good look at the pictures, and take a few minutes and watch the video. Very introspective.

I'm goin' to Mars

That's right. If somethin' this awesome ever came to pass, I'll fly my fat ass into space. Might shit myself long before it gets to 1,100 mph, but it happens.

From the J-Ro archives... FYI, his new website is badass. Check it out!

Spring Spheres? Really?

What a steamin' pile of bullshit. Seriously.

There's barely anythin' Christian about most Easter activities anymore, anyway. Why bother with a name change? I'm not the most religious dude out there (obviously) and I understand the need for separation of church and state, but ya gotta draw a line somewhere. The word "Easter" itself isn't even derived from Christian religion, but comes from some chick who apparently liked havin' sex on the beach at sunrise in the springtime....

Word Origin & History - Easter
O.E. Eastre  (Northumbrian Eostre), from P.Gmc. *Austron,  a goddess of fertility and sunrise whose feast was celebrated at the spring equinox, from *austra-,  from PIE *aus-  "to shine" (especially of the dawn). Bede says Anglo-Saxon Christians adopted her name and many of the celebratory practices for their Mass of Christ's resurrection. Ultimately related to east. Almost all neighboring languages use a variant of Latin Pasche  to name this holiday.

Do these fuckin' PC people really go to bed at night and not feel like complete retards? Who thinks this shit up?

Oh yeah.... these guys.

I'm sicker than dog shit right now, so naturally I went out to the shop for a little bit yesterday. Nothin' like breathin' in a bunch of sawdust to make raw sinuses feel better.

But I digress... I think I finally settled on a box call style that I like, so I finished up two of the designs that I've been playin' with, and started cuttin' up blocks to make some more.

The darker one has a chestnut base and paddle, with red cedar soundboards. The lighter one is all chestnut. I really shoulda made a new paddle for it, but I'll probably keep ahold of that one anyway and it sounds alright to me. I have some maple that I wanna play around with too, so that'll happen with the next batch.

Call me pretentious if ya want... my little brother Joe made a cool logo design, so I cleaned it up and got a stamp made so I can mark the calls that I make with 'em. Hopefully I can sell a few here and there for some extra income. I'm sure I ain't the only one with a weakness for spendin' money on calls.

Go O's

At risk of jinxin' the whole thing, the Baltimorons are 4-0 for the first time since '97, which I'm thinkin' was also their last winnin' season. It's purty excitin' to be an O's fan for the first time in a long time. My older brother Jesse and several buddies were at Camden Yards for openin' day yesterday. With the team's recent resurgence and a warm, sunny day, I was kinda jealous that I wasn't there with 'em.

With the shitstorm rainin' down on the NFL, I'm gonna try my best to be a better baseball fan this year. I played 'till I was 16 and always enjoyed the game. I just never learned how to hit a curveball, so that purty much nixed my career. Both of my brothers play ball though, and I enjoy tryin' to catch as many of their games as I can. Joe's in his senior season of high school ball, so I'm really lookin' forward to seein' how he and his teammates follow up an excellent year last year. Jess plays with a competitive adult league, so those games are fun to catch as well.

Weekend with the family

Every April and October, we get together with my ol' man's side of the family at a big ol' huntin' cabin in Orrtanna. Now, there are downsides to this kinda activity... the upstairs area sleeps over 20 people in an open loft, many of which who snore and/or fart... loudly. There's a lot of rambunctious children runnin' all over the place, and there ain't no runnin' water so no flushin' shitter or showers.

But on the good side of things, there's a lot of really good, fun people gettin' together, and a lot of 'em know how to cook. You're pretty much guaranteed great food and some good yarns bein' told around the fireplace. Someone always brings liquid refreshment and/or other medications, so the adults are always in a good mood. There's a crick runnin' about 150 yards away, and that keeps the kids entertained for hours. There's about a hundred acres of woods around that's filled with trails and critters. There's a nice big yard there too, so you can throw around the football or set up cornhole boards or whatever. Also a range out back, so bringin' guns and plenty of ammo is usually a given.

Since I got my hands on a dual sport, though, my favorite part of the cabin (aside from gobblin' turkeys) is the close proximity to Michaux State Forest, along with its plethora of rideable trails. I try to stay where I'm supposed to, but sometimes I git sidetracked.

I took it pretty easy this weekend though, since I was ridin' by myself and I have no desire to bang up my body, or the bike that is currently my only method of transportation. I still had a great time though... dusted about 100 miles of trails and state roads, and found a few gems, too. This was one of 'em.

Of course, I had to climb that big-ass rock just to get a better view, which was a fantastic idea. Not only was the view excellent, there was a big ol' struttin' gobbler at the bottom of the hill on the same gasline.

I did hear gobblers both Saturday and Sunday morning... made my weekend that much better.

And probably best of all is the lack of cell phone coverage... no callin' or textin' or facebookin' to distract everyone from havin' a good time. My phone became a camera for the weekend, which suited me just fine.

Y'all take care, now.

Religion of Peace?

Yeah, right.

Ok, so let me get this straight. You burn our American flag, damn near daily it seems. What happens?

Nothing.

Ok, so some wackjobs in Florida (ain't they all?) decide to burn your worthless roll of toilet paper Holy Book. What happens?

You storm the U.N. compound and 12 people wind up killed.

Should those crackpots be burning the Quran? No. But should you asshats be burning our flag? Also no.

So here's what I propose. Every time our flag gets burned at some anti-American demonstration, our military waxes 12 of your people. Every. Single. Time.

Seems perfectly fair to me.

Sometimes I hate comin' back to work from the weekend and catchin' up on my readin'. Makes me angry.

Here Fishy Fishy

Tomorrow mornin' at 8am, hundreds of thousands of worms, rooster tails and powerbait jigs will be hurled mercilessly into Pennsyltucky's streams, bringing in the last remaining obstacle before turkey season.

Yessir, folks... trout season is here.

I'm not much of a fishin' guy, but I'll do my brotherly duty and show up at the stream to throw worms at dumb, fishery-raised trout with Dad and my brothers. Maybe I'll git lucky and catch a few while I'm at it.

Don't git me wrong. I like to fish every now and again. I really enjoy the steelhead fishin' in Erie with the ol' man and my brothers, although we ain't gone for a few years now. Love goin' over to the other side of the island up at the cottage and yankin' out catfish right at dusk. But gimme the choice between huntin' and fishin', I'm headin' to the woods every time.

But I'll show up, take a few pictures, catch a few fish and have a good time.

•••••

I'll be spendin' the rest of the weekend up at the cabin in Orrtanna with the extended Murren and Sprenkle families. Not sure what kinda trouble I'll get into up there.

Oh yeah, and baseball as I know it starts tonight. Go O's!! Let's see if we can't get over .500 this year, shall we?

Y'all have a good weekend, now.
