Body Count '15 - #7

I caught this little booger out raidin' my girl's flowers at our pond this mornin'. I was kinda surprised, because normally it takes a few weeks after I shoot one before another one shows up. She made a good run and almost made it back to the hole under the shed. Almost.

Quick cottage run

I took a quick day trip up to the cottage today, and I gotta tell ya, I couldn't have hand-picked a better day to do it. Momma Nature was in full splendor today.

I generally try to get the water turned on and the furniture moved into place before Mom and Grandma head up to spring clean and get the cottage "officially" opened for the summer. They we plannin' on headin' up this weekend to take care of that, so I purty much was left with the day trip option.

With some help from the neighbor, and the obligatory Johnny Paycheck croonin' on the stereo, the chores were taken care of in a jig-time, so I even go to set on my ass and relax on the front porch for awhile.

All told, it was a great day to take the scooter for a spin. I manage to elude the attention of law enforcement, and I didn't have any major mechanical malfunctions, and the weather was about as perfect as I could want. Total mileage on the day was about 350, and the KLR averaged around 42mph. I yanked 'er back into the garage at home just as the sun was fixin' to dip behind the horizon... right on schedule.

Can't complain about a day like that.

Body Count '15 - #6

Lotta workin' lately, but they'll be more substantial postin' to come in the near future. In the meantime...

I was chasin' the girl around the house when I looked out the window and spied this mangy fella gettin' a late snack, and I quickly changed targets.

With dwellings in the distance beyond where the shot would be, I left the .17 on the rack. Instead, the Auto Pointer got the nod, and she handily bagged her first critter under my ownership.

Body Count '15 - #4 and #5

I got to the farm a few minutes early today, so I had the .223 ridin' shotgun and ready to rock. Good thing I did.

The first one went scurryin' back to his hole as I went whippin' into the driveway. I camped out for a few minutes, and sure enough, he poked his head back out a minute or two later. At 30 yards, that was all I needed to see.

On the next lap around, I caught another hog checkin' things out by the driveway. The result was purty much the same.
The .223 is four outta four so far this year. Wonder how long it'll take me to screw that up?

Red again

After runnin' the new T-Bird with the matte black color last year, I decided it was time to go back to the ol' red and silver again.

Damn, I'm glad I did. I forgot how goddamned sexy that bike looks with the red on 'er. It's literally like havin' a brand new bike all over again.

It didn't come without a headache though. What was supposed to be a quick changeover to the red furniture and a fluid dump turned into an eight-hour major repair, as I quickly figgered out that the coolin' system was completely fucked. I wound up rippin' as much as I could off the old bike and slappin' it on the new bike (I love havin' a parts bike layin' around). It ain't perfect, but it's gotta be better than it was before.

The dude that I bought the bike from is lucky that I have an unhealthy attachment to T-birds, and that he lives so far away, because it's been a damned headache since day one.

Body Count '15 - #3

My first whistlepig with the new .17HMR... sure beats the hell outta the .22. Whereas a direct hit with the .22 allowed them to run back under the shed before they expired (thus causin' a week-long stink), this hog hit the dirt like she'd been whacked with a bag of nickels.

Lookin' forward to many, many more hogs with this beaut...

Harbingers of Spring

It's April.

It's beautiful out.

I have my pipe and a cold drink on the back porch.

My feet are up after a long day's work.

The O's won the opener.

I can smell the neighbor's grill and hear the local kids outside playin'.

Did I mention it's beautiful out?

As much as I enjoy the winter, I can get used to this.
