I'm sicker than dog shit right now, so naturally I went out to the shop for a little bit yesterday. Nothin' like breathin' in a bunch of sawdust to make raw sinuses feel better.

But I digress... I think I finally settled on a box call style that I like, so I finished up two of the designs that I've been playin' with, and started cuttin' up blocks to make some more.

The darker one has a chestnut base and paddle, with red cedar soundboards. The lighter one is all chestnut. I really shoulda made a new paddle for it, but I'll probably keep ahold of that one anyway and it sounds alright to me. I have some maple that I wanna play around with too, so that'll happen with the next batch.

 

Call me pretentious if ya want... my little brother Joe made a cool logo design, so I cleaned it up and got a stamp made so I can mark the calls that I make with 'em. Hopefully I can sell a few here and there for some extra income. I'm sure I ain't the only one with a weakness for spendin' money on calls.

So, yesterday was the 17th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death and the 9th anniversary of Layne Staley's untimely demise. Both died as a result of their demons, but both were also phenomenal performers... just guys that wanted to hang out and play music. Here's two good tunes in honor of them.
